We see there are seldom new posts there.
The main reason is that we seldom chat in English. The forum serves entirely local netizens. English is our second language and when we talk we prefer our mother-tongue, Chinese. Besides, not so many of us can manage to chat in English, and that's why there are so few people in the board. This is the main point to note.
Yet, we see students encounter many difficulties when learning English. The difficulties include the use of vocabulary, collocation, grammar and the list goes on. We have difficulties in learning English because the two language systems differ in many aspect, especially the sentence patterns. When one writes he cannot just directly "translate" the context in Chinese into English.
With many students here, it seems that tuning the focus of the board may be a good idea. But first thing to do is that the administration should find someone good at English to fit the requirements of management.
And the administration should allow members to post bilingually, as the name of the board suggests -- it is a learning area. |
